Wrangell St. Elias-Denali 2010
After I complete my Tracy Arm kayak trip in the summer of 2010, Rena meets me in Anchorage. We rent a car and spend 2 weeks in Alaska. We drive the Glenallen Highway east to spend about a week in Wrangell St. Elias National Park, the largest in the United States. This is the home of the famous Kennicott Copper Mine which is a photographers delight. We stay in a B+B in the park and also do a 2-night backpack to Eire Lake with a view of the Stairway Icefall, the 2nd largest in the world. After a couple of days in the port city of Valdez, we drive the unpaved Denali Highway to Denali National Park where we ride the park bus system and camp in some of the easily accessible campgrounds along the park road. The wildlife is spectacular. Riding the park bus is almost like visiting a zoo.
