Fairbanks Ice 2009
Rena and I visited Fairbanks in March 2009 to see the world famous ice sculpture competition, observe the Northern Lights, and to drive a dog sled. Displaying an unusual degree of restraint, we did not camp out. We stayed at a B+B just outside of Fairbanks and then moved to the Northern Sky Lodge south of Town. The lodge was an excellent place to see the Northern Lights and to do dog sledding. We had poor weather conditions for the Northern Lights but had a great time anyway. Some of the ice sculptures are 40-feet high and are truly amazing. We also visited the Nenana Ice Classic where you can enter a lottery to win lots of cash if you pick the correct time that Ice breakup occurs on the river in the spring.
