Cedar Breaks Bike 2021
In June, 2021, Greg Scarich, Pete Ackerman, and I drove to the Cedar Breaks National Monument area in Utah in my new Ford Transit van to do several bike rides. We camped at Te An campground near Navajo Lake for 7 nights. The elevation was about 9,000 feet so we avoided the extreme heat that had hit the Western part of the US
First on the list was the 32 mile Virgin River Rim Trail which we broke up into 3 parts. We did the Middle Loop, an out and back on the Western section, and an out and back on the Eastern section. The Eastern section was very rocky and the most difficult ride we did.
We rode the Thunder Mountain Trail loop near Bryce Canyon on the 4th day. This ride passes through spectacular rock formations and hoodos.
We sent our final 2 days at Cedar Breaks NM. We hiked the standard short trails along the rim. Then we did an out and back ride called Twisted Forest which started close to the Brianhead ski resort. This ride was all on roads frequented by ATV’s but was very scenic. Both days allowed us to walk among Bristlecone Pine Trees, the oldest living things on earth.
This gallery also includes some photos taken by Greg and Pete.
