Capetown 2017

This album is the 3rd phase of the 41 days that Rena and I spent in Southern Africa starting in May 2017. We spent 17 days on a commercial OAT trip seeing wildlife in 3 different countries in the vicinity of Victoria Falls. After that, we flew to Namibia to ride around in a rental 4WD with our two friends, Ron and Christine. We did this trip on our on. Photos from those travels can be seen in two other Smugmug galleries titled Victoria Falls and Namibia.

The last 6 days of the trip were in Capetown, also on our own. Ron and Christine were there for part of the time. We visited the Cape of Good Hope, the penguins at Boulder Beach, Robbin Island (where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned), Table Mountain, and spent a night in a township. The township stay was the highlight of our visit. Renting a car is an efficient way to see the peninsula and Cape of Good Hope.

Day 1,2 - Fly from LA to Johannesburg
Day 3 - Visit JBerg
Day 4 - Fly to Victoria Falls, meet our OAT group, and drive to Chobe NP in Botswana
Day 5,6 - Game viewing in Chobe NP
Day 7,8,9 - Game viewing in the Okavango Delta in Botswana
Day 10,11,12 - Game viewing at Kafue NP in Zambia
Day 13,14,15 - Game viewing at Hwange NP in Zimbabwe
Day 16,17 - Tour Victoria Falls, microlite flight
Day 18,19 - Fly to Windhoek, Namibia. Meet Ron, and Christine. Pick up rental truck
Day 20,21,22,23 - Drive to Etosha NP for game viewing
Day 24,25,26 - Drive to Epupa Falls and visit Himba Village
Day 27,28,29,30 - Visit petroglyphs at Twyfelfontein, Swakopmend
Day 31,32,33 - Visit sand dunes at Sesriem, return to Windhoek
Day 34-39 - Leave Namibia, go to Capetown in South Africa
Day 40 - One day in Amsterdam
Day 41 - Fly back to LA
