Scorpion Bench 2011
In October 2011, I joined Hal Tompkins on his annual fall trip to the Escalante region. I had missed the previous two years. Canyons explored or descended were
Day 1 - Scorpion Twin Forks
Day 2 - Scorpion East, East branch
Day 3 - Sandslide (near Pic-a-Boo and Spooky)
Day 4 - Scorpion East, West and Main branch
Day 5 - Egypt 3
Day 6 - Raven
Day 7 - Micro Death Hollow
Canyoneers were Hal, John Marshall, Helga Zimmerman, Terry Erickson, Jim Welch, and myself. Frank King along with Eric and Jan Simpson camped with us part of the time and hiked in the area. We car camped at the Red Well Trailhead and did all the canyons as day-trips. This Trailhead is one of the prime entry points for popular Coyote Gulch and the canyons on the Scorpion Bench are tributaries of Coyote Gulch. They tend to be difficult. They have lots of keeper potholes and require high stemming. We "sampled" parts of them. My camera was acting up on this trip and failed at the end. My photos are very limited. I did not participate in the Micro Death Hollow hike. Terry Erickson shot a video which can be found in my Canyoneering Folder on this site.
