Missouri Breaks Canoe 2020
In Sept 2020, Rena and I drove to Montana to join some friends from Minnesota for a 7 day canoe trip in Missouri Breaks National Monument. In 1804, Lewis and Clark spent 2 years traveling up the Missouri River, across the Rocky Mountains and eventually down the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean. We are in Lewis and Clark Country! We canoed 107 miles of the 149 mile stretch of the Missouri that is designated as a Wild and Scenic River.
Our friends from Minnesota were Mike Berglund, Bill Simpson, Cal Stenso, Mark Trumper, Alex Jacocks, and Brad Anez. They drove hauling a trailer full of canoes including one for Rena and I. We had great weather except for a day of rain where we declared a rest day. The Missouri is all class 1, has few crowds, and nice scenery. An excellent river guide is available form the BLM which administers this area. Permits are easy to obtain.
